CHAPTER 1: BUILDING CHARACTERS
Character building can get very deep and involved, depending on how much you want to customize your Character - but it can also be a pretty straightforward affair, and the concepts are the same whether you want to spin up a character fast to get playing quickly, or to take your time and come up with exactly who you want to play.
The process is:

| CAMPAIGN TYPE | You and your Referee will decide this - it’s the starting power level for your Characters. |
| ASPECTS | Aspects determine how strong your Body, Mind, and Spirit are compared to others. |
| QUALITIES | Qualities define the Power, Precision, and Persistence of each Aspect. |
| SPECIES | Your Species determines your appearance, as well as your natural strengths and weaknesses. |
| CULTURE | What you’re born as is only part of the picture. Your culture also defines you! |
| BACKGROUND | Your travels have given you prior experience: faith, social standing, and relationships to factions. |
| ABILITIES | Wielding swords, accessing magical powers, and knowing how to trade are all Abilities. |
| PROGRESSION | Knowing where you start is one thing - but how does your Character get better? |
What follows are rules for players, with instructions on how to get playing as fast as possible, how to get the most from customizing your character, and some example templates to work from if you’re looking for inspiration.
In CHAPTER 2, you’ll learn how to play the game with the character you’ve created - so for now, get a feel for the kinds of characters you can build. More detail will come after you have your character in hand!
