CHAPTER 2: STATS and BONUSES

While many things go into making a character, at the most basic level, a Character possesses innate potentials which are unique to that individual, regardless of species or cultural upbringing.

In The Lens, those innate potentials are represented by:

  • ASPECTS, which are a broad way of judging a Character’s raw potential. Those Aspects are:
    • Body, which rules atheleticism and physical prowess,
    • Mind, which shows the ability to learn, adapt, and innovate,
    • Spirit, which provides hope, comfort, and a channel to the divine,
    • Luck, which gives a Character the ability to succeed when they seem least likely to, and
    • Void, which tallies the brushes with death, insanity, and despair a Character has suffered.
  • ASPECT POOLS, which are how Aspects are used during play to power Abilities and absorb damage, and
  • QUALITIES, which refine the three Major aspects of BODY, MIND, and SPIRIT. Qualities for each Aspect are:
    • Power, which informs how much raw capacity the Character has,
    • Precision, which expresses how accurately or meticulously the Character can act, and
    • Perseverance, which shows how long a Character can sustain effort.

What follows are rules for generating and for use during play, including what happens when Aspect Pools reach zero, when to use each Quality, how Luck works, and what happens when a character’s VOID Aspect begins to increase…
