Settlements
You will come across many settlements and holdings as you step across your world; some, tiny and fragile, may only exist for a brief moment in time before they’re gone, wiped out by one misfortune or another – there are those aplenty in all of the worlds. Others, luckier or more suitably placed, may grow and thrive, becoming great cities, trade hubs and centers of culture – before their ultimate fall in the end, naturally.
In the Age of Dreams you will not find people in any one place for too long. They search for their promised lands in small tribes, setting their tents only for a season or two before moving on to resume their quest. Wanderers are sometimes welcome, but there are no inns or taverns in the traditional sense; law and politics are as simple as following the word of the Tribal Chief, and war is similarly simple – every Tribe fights for its existence, down to the very last man, woman, and child.
Once the Tribes have settled, though, and the Age of Dreams comes to an end, these villages begin to grow rapidly, and their expansion into city-states and kingdoms becomes inevitable. Henceforth, our people will most often be found in settlements or fortifications, which generally fall into the following categories.
