Physicality

APPEARANCE

While the natural form of a Dölgöthros is mostly humanoid, it is easily as disgusting and vile to the other races, in appearance and in smell, as any day-old corpse.

Spindly, angular bones - far, far more than in any other species, more like an intricate lattice than a scaffolding - are partially visible through their pasty, translucent skin, which sports veins and other odd protrusions over its surface. Faces are shifting, mucus-covered masses with likely orifices for eating, breathing, and seeing, though these have an unsettling tendency to drift in configuration from time to time.

In their natural form, the Dölgöthros stand 4-6’ tall.

CHARACTERISTICS

NATURAL SHAPESHIFTERS

Dölgöthros rarely have occasion to worry about other creatures’ reaction to their form, however, since the species can naturally shapeshift. Few if any outside of Dölgöthros “society” ever see their natural form, in fact, except when one is slain or wounded greviously. The hint of an unpleasant smell remains when the Dölgöthros shifts, but can be masked in many ways.

FUNCTIONAL IMMORTALITY

Due to the nature of their ever-adaptable genetics and cellular structures, the Dölgöthros are functionally immortal - they can be killed by normal means, and poison and disease affect them just like any other species, but ageing alone has no effect on their physiology.

VARIABLE MASS

Shapeshifters at the cellular levels, the Dölgöthros only need to retain enough mass to ensure their vital systems continue to function - which corresponds to about a square foot of mass. They can shed mass quickly - the viscous, liquid goop that drops from their form leaves a telltale clue as to their presence, but they can lose any amount of mass within a minute’s time. It takes them more time to gain mass, however - they basically need to eat, but instead of processing the mass as caloric content to power them, they convert the mass they consume into structured scaffolding to support them. In this, they’re limited to their food intake process, so they can add roughly a pound a minute - assuming there’s enough biomass nearby to absorb.
