CHAPTER 7: CHALLENGES
Challenges are the core of the game: any time your Character wants to do something important, difficult, or interesting, they’ll engage in a Challenge to determine the outcome of the action they’re attempting.
The process is:

| Determine Ability | You and your referee will agree on which of your Character’s Abilities they’ll use in the Challenge. |
| Roll the Dice | You’ll roll one die for your Species Talent, two for your Ability Training, and add your Quality Modifier. |
| Derive Qualities from Aspects | Qualities define the Power, Precision, and Persistence of each Aspect. |
| Select Species | Your Species determines your appearance, as well as your natural strengths and weaknesses. |
| Select Culture | What you’re born as is only part of the picture. Your culture also defines you! |
| Select Background | Before you became an adventurer, were you a sailor, an artist, a soldier or a blacksmith? |
| Purchase Abilities | Wielding swords, accessing magical powers, and knowing how to trade are all Abilities. |
| Learn to Play | Now that you have your Character - how do you play the game? |
