Tags
OVERVIEW
Tags are how The Lens represents Conditions that affect a Location, and . The Tag consists of a name, a CONDITION, a DURATION, and a trigger/banish requirement. Once a Tag has been applied, its effects to a must be taken by the Character affected until the Duration runs out, they drop the Item, they leave the Location, or they somehow remove the Tag.
DESCRIPTION
A Tag can be applied to a Character, a Monster, a Location, or a Thing. Tags have five attributes when they’re applied:
- NAME: The one-word descriptive name of the Tag. “Poison,” for instance, or “Stun.”
- EFFECT: Description of the actual effect once it’s applied. Can be wordy.
- POWER: How powerful the effect is, represented as a Target Number.
- PERSISTENCE: How long the Tag will last if left undispelled or unresisted.
APPLYING TAGS TO CHARACTERS
APPLYING TAGS TO ITEMS
APPLYING TAGS TO LOCATIONS
Tags are commonly used in locations to indicate the effects of inclement weather, unnatural heat, or any other ongoing effect the players’ Characters must deal with while they’re in the area. Generally speaking, there’s no immediately obvious way to dispel a Location Tag, though there may be mechanisms they can find through gameplay - a storm, for instance, is unlikely to do anything but pass overhead, but a blinding light emanating from a strange hilltop could be removed by finding the source of the light and finding a way to shut it down. A few examples:
| EFFECTS: | Characters in the area gain SOAKED [ (DULL BODY [1], WITHER MOMENTUM [1], SCENE) ] until they find shelter or the storm passes. |
| One key Botch or Sacrifice in the area may trigger a lightning blast to the actor, doing 2d6 BODY, 1d6 BODY to any Characters or Monsters in melee range of them, and inflicting all affected Characters and Monsters with [STUNNED (2)]. Choose randomly or as appropriate, and only do this once. | |
| Any Botch or Sacrifice in the area may cause an actor to slip in the mud and and go [PRONE], losing 1 additional MOMENTUM in the process. | |
| POWER: | n/a (Storm is Preternaturally strong and cannot be dispelled) |
| PERSISTENCE | 60 minutes |
